Visa
Student visa
holders
are only eligible to do an
internship in the period
covered by their visa. Most student
visas have an extra 4 weeks at
the end of their visa after their
study is due to finish. Full-time
internships can only occur during
this time. Part-time internships
(maximum 20 hours per week) are also
possible on a student visa.
Visitor visa
holders
are only able to do an internship
for a maximum
period of 3 months. The holder is
entitled to work in an unpaid
position as long as the job is not
usually a paid position. This means
that the internship is usually in a
not-for profit organisation.
Working Holiday
visas
are for 12 months. The holder can
work (paid
or unpaid) for any one employer for
a maximum of 6 months. For
